Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Guru Nanak Gurpurab:

“Today, Sikhs in Canada and around the world celebrate Guru Nanak Gurpurab: the birth of the founder of Sikhism.

“This holiday reminds us of the importance of equality, service to community and sharing through the spirit of Seva. It reinforces the values we cherish as Canadians: that our nation is built on hard work and selflessness.

“Sikh Canadians have made a lasting impact on our society: a proud heritage going back generations to trailblazers like Buckam Singh, who served honourably in our nation’s forces during the First World War.

“Together, we recognize the sacrifices that this vibrant and active community has made over many decades: helping the needy and generously improving our great country.

“On behalf of all my Conservative colleagues, happy Gurpurab!”
