Liberals comment on upcoming federal budget – October 22, 2025

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting.

The prime minister is asked about his speech Wednesday evening at the University of Ottawa, where he is expected to outline expectations for the upcoming federal budget.

Ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Steven MacKinnon (government House leader) and Steven Guilbeault (Canadian identity and culture), as well as MPs James Maloney, Charles Sousa, Doug Eyolfson, Cole Hogan and Mark Gerretsen face questions on the budget and the possible size of the federal deficit.

Champagne also responds to questions on issues surrounding auto manufacturer Stellantis’ decision to relocate its Jeep assembly plant from Brampton to Illinois.

MP Marc Miller, as well as Gerretsen and Hogan speak about Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent comments about the RCMP and former prime minister Justin Trudeau.

Minister Anita Anand (foreign affairs) and MP Greg Fergus face questions on allegations of harassment and discrimination of public service workers at Global Affairs Canada.

Minister Evan Solomon (Artificial Intelligence) is asked about a recent report from the Netherlands on the inaccuracy of AI chatbots regarding news content.
