Ministers comment on Canada-U.S. trade, ailing auto sector – October 21, 2025

Prime Minister Mark Carney and ministers speak briefly with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. The prime minister comments on the Toronto Blue Jays’ victory against the Seattle Mariners and their advancement to the World Series.

Carney and Minister Dominic LeBlanc (Canada-U.S. trade, intergovernmental affairs) face questions about ongoing trade negotiations with the U.S. and whether an agreement might be reached at the APAC meeting later this month.

Minister Mélanie Joly (industry) reacts to General Motors’ move to end the production of EV delivery vans in Ingersoll, Ontario. She also responds to questions on Stellantis’ decision to relocate its Jeep assembly plant from Brampton to Illinois.

Minister Steven MacKinnon (government House leader) speaks about Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s comments regarding the RCMP and former prime minister Justin Trudeau. He also comments on the upcoming federal budget.

Minister François-Philippe Champagne (finance) is asked about the government’s efforts to address high grocery prices.

Champagne also speaks about the recently released Auditor General report that examines the accuracy of information relayed to taxpayers at the Canada Revenue Agency’s call centres.

Minister Steven Guilbeault (Canadian Identity and Culture) comments on the five-year plan for the CBC.
