Weekly Wrap Up: More Broken Liberal Promises
Ottawa, ON – As Canadians are getting ready for Thanksgiving, it was another week of Conservatives holding the Liberals to their promises and Mark Carney failing to deliver. It started with a letter calling on the Prime Minister to “negotiate a win” in his meeting with the US President.
Sadly, Carney left without a deal, failing to get the relief from tariffs and Buy American policies he promised. What’s worse, he sold out to President Trump by promising to invest $1 trillion into America’s economy, creating jobs and paycheques for their workers, not ours.
After holding him accountable for these failures, Conservatives protected the rights of Canadians and forced the Liberals to back down from their privacy-invading Bill C-2. Now the Liberals have re-drafted and reintroduced their bill, and Conservatives will ensure it actually fixes the Liberals’ broken border.
As Canadians continue to feel the Liberal crime crisis, the Conservatives put forward a motion to pass MP Khanna’s Jail Not Bail Act that would keep criminals in jail where they belong. Shamefully, the Liberals backed their broken bail system and voted it down.
That didn’t stop Kerry Diotte, Conservative Member of Parliament for Edmonton Griesbach, from keeping up the pressure to end Liberal soft-on-crime policies by introducing Bill C-243. The act would put an end to convicted murderers re-victimizing the loved ones of their victims at parole hearings.
This week also brought news that the White House had renewed interest in the Keystone XL Pipeline. Conservatives reaffirmed our support for crucial energy infrastructure like Keystone, but made it clear that Canada needs pipelines in every direction to build a truly sovereign and self-reliant economy.
Meanwhile, at the Health Committee, Carney’s Health Minister Marjorie Michel refused to rule out more drug dens next to schools and daycares – despite admitting that there is rampant fentanyl usage in the sites. Conservatives called on Carney to do the right thing and shut down drug dens next to children.
Over at the Citizenship and Immigration Committee, the Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner put forward a common-sense change to fix the broken immigration system by updating outdated automatic citizenship rules.
To cap off a week fighting for Canadians, Conservatives introduced a motion demanding Carney stop his Deficit Déjà Vu in the upcoming budget and finally recognize that deficits drive investments and jobs out and the cost of living up.
As Canadians enjoy time with their friends and family this weekend, Conservatives wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving and give thanks for the country that we will continue to fight so hard for.
