Conservatives call on Carney to get shovels in the ground.
Ottawa, ON – Today, the Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, announced Conservative support for critical energy infrastructure like the Keystone XL Pipeline.
“We are glad to hear President Trump and his administration express renewed interest in the Keystone XL pipeline. One of the first executive orders he signed in 2017 was the approval of this pipeline,” said Poilievre. “In Canada, Keystone XL was approved under a Conservative government in 2010. Prime Minister Carney should know that he will have the Official Opposition behind him if he does the right thing and gets this crucial project moving.”
KXL is a good start, but the job isn’t finished. Carney must meet the ambition of his words to “think big and act bigger” to build “at speeds we haven’t seen in generations.”
“We have been calling on the Liberals to get out of the way and build pipelines in Canada for over a decade,” Poilievre added. “This cannot be one-and-done for our industry. We also need pipelines going from West to East and to our Western shores to open new markets in Asia, protect our sovereignty and give us more control over our resources.”
Back in August, Poilievre asked Carney to get shovels in the ground on two major pipelines by March 14th, the end of his first year in office. None of these projects will get built without first eliminating the Liberals’ job and project-killing anti-development laws.
Conservatives urge the Liberal government to work with us to put Canada first by passing the Canadian Sovereignty Act, which would repeal Bill C-69, the Bill C-48 shipping ban, the production cap and the industrial carbon tax.
No Canadian oil will be able to flow through Keystone XL – or any other pipeline – as long as Liberal MPs continue to block Canadian oil production through these keep-it-in-the-ground Liberal laws.
“We need to build pipelines in every direction to take Canadian oil to world markets and sell at full price,” Poilievre concluded. “Conservatives stand ready to bring real solutions that will unleash Canada’s bountiful natural resources and bring powerful paycheques for our people.”
