Advocates call on government to recognize right to mental health and substance use health care

The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health holds a news conference in Ottawa as part of Mental Illness Awareness Week. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Mental Health and Substance Use Health: A Right, Not a Privilege.”

Speaking with reporters are alliance co-chairs Florence Budden and Anthony Esposti, as well as Vicki-Anne Rodrigue, national advocacy lead for the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. (October 6, 2025)
