New Democrats announce critic shuffle for fall sitting of the house « Canada’s NDP

On Monday, NDP Leader Don Davies announced further critic roles for the NDP caucus this fall.

“Serious issues are facing Canadians and our country. New Democrats remain focused on ensuring this government invests in workers in a time when Canadians are worried about the future.
“I’m proud to serve on a team of talented MPs dedicated to finding positive, progressive solutions.”

The following MPs have taken on new critic roles to their portfolio:

  • MP Don Davies (Vancouver Kingsway), Interim Leader and critic for Finance; Industry and Jobs, and Intergovernmental Affairs, takes on being the critic for International Trade and critic for Democratic Reform.
  • MP Alexandre Boulerice (Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie), Critic for Environment and Climate Change; Labour; Transportation; Official Languages; Quebec and Ontario Economic Development; adds Foreign Affairs and International Development to his critic file.
  • MP Leah Gazan (Winnipeg Centre), Critic for Women and Gender Equity; Children, Familes and Social Development; People with Disabilities; Post-Secondary Education; Skills and Training; and Prairies Economic Development adds Seniors to her critic portfolio.
  • MP Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni), Critic for Health, Mental Health and addictions; Small Business and Tourism; Fisheries and Oceans; Agriculture; Veteran Affairs and Rural has been named the NDP Emergency Preparedness critic and the critic for Defence.
  • MP Jenny Kwan (Vancouver East), critic for Housing; Immigration and Citizenship; Infrastructure; Public Safety and National Security and Pacific Economic Development becomes the NDP’s caucus chair.
  • MP Lori Idlout (Nunavut), critic for Arctic Sovereignty and Security; Natural Resources; Indigenous Affairs; Justice; Northern and Atlantic Economic Development adds Canadian Heritage (Arts, Culture, Sport) to her file.

“Every single New Democrat in Parliament is fighting for issues that Canadians care about – like lowering the costs of housing, protecting and strengthening our public healthcare, and creating more good paying jobs here in Canada,” said Davies. “I’m confident that our caucus will continue to be the voice of the working class in Parliament and deliver results for all working people.”
