Weekly Wrap Up: Carney Distracts While Conservatives Lead

Ottawa, ON — Week two of the fall sitting was another successful week fighting for Canadians left behind by the Liberals. While Conservatives focused on restoring stronger take-home pay, Carney started the week by continuing to distract from his record of rampant crime, debt, immigration and job losses.

Carney’s recognition of a Hamas state that rewards terrorists for their barbaric attack on innocent civilians shows where his priorities lie. While he makes announcements abroad to distract from his terrible record at home, Conservatives continue to focus on what’s good for Canadians.

It also means holding Carney accountable for his commitments. Mark Carney has broken his promise to “do things previously thought impossible at speeds we haven’t seen in generations.” Instead of ending the laws stopping things from being built, he has only constructed new bureaucracies and continued the same Liberal policies that locked wealth and prosperity in the ground. When Conservatives introduced a motion calling on Carney to immediately repeal the disastrous oil and gas production cap, the Liberals voted against it.

Despite his promise to “spend less,” the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) confirmed this week that the deficit will rise from $42.2 billion under Trudeau to $68.5 billion under Carney. Carney has kept the financial watchdog on a short leash with a 180-day term. That’s why Conservatives formally asked the Prime Minister to appoint the Parliamentary Budget Officer to a full seven-year term. It’s time to give Canadians the truth by letting the budget watchdog do his job, without fear of being fired.

Meanwhile, Carney’s hapless Public Safety Minister finally admitted the truth – Carney’s gun grab is purely political, won’t work and he doesn’t even believe in it – but only when he thought no one was listening. The buyback boondoggle is just the latest in a string of failures that showcase Carney’s terrible judgment, which is why Conservatives called on him to fire Minister Anandasangaree.

Finishing out the week, Conservatives called on the government to stop taxing food. The motion would scrap their hidden fuel taxes on fertilizer and farm equipment and curb inflation by reversing their inflationary deficits.

This week showed that Carney is just another bait-and-switch Liberal, promising one thing, then delivering the opposite. Only Conservatives will end Carney’s economic vandalism, protect the rights of law-abiding Canadians, reduce taxes and restore the Canadian promise with stronger take-home pay.
