Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Rosh Hashanah

Ottawa, ON –  Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre released the following statement on Rosh Hashanah:

“As Rosh Hashanah begins with the setting of the sun, Jewish families will gather as the shofar sounds to mark the beginning of the ten days of repentance. While feasting on challah, honey, apples and more, Conservatives wish Jewish Canadians a sweet new year.

“This time reminds us of the enduring faith and traditions that the Jewish people have drawn strength from since the time of Abraham. Even in times of great hardship, G-d’s word provides guidance to reflect on the past year, and to ask for compassion and blessing in the year to come.

“It is a season to celebrate faith, family and freedom – fundamental values which have sustained generations and unite us in Canada. Recently, Jewish Canadians have faced an alarming increase in hate crimes, including vandalism of schools, synagogues, and Jewish-owned businesses. These acts of intimidation and harassment have no place here in Canada. Conservatives take this opportunity to condemn the rise of antisemitism and all forms of hatred, and to fight for the safety of our Jewish communities.

“On behalf of all my colleagues, I want to wish all those who celebrate a new year of joy, renewal and peace.

Shanah Tovah U’metuka!”
