Pass ‘Three Strikes’ to Stop the Crime

September 18, 2025 at 12:47 pm  Federal, Politics

Ottawa, ON – After a decade of reckless Liberal policies that allow criminals to offend, offend, and re-offend without consequence, Canadians are less safe and criminals less afraid. Violent crime is up by 55 per cent, sexual assaults by 76 per cent, firearms crime by 130 per cent, and extortion by an astounding 330 per cent compared to 2015.

By refusing to repeal the disastrous laws like Bill C-5, Carney is failing to protect Canadians from the very real threats they face. His Minister of Justice – Trudeau’s worst appointee –  even defended catch-and-release Bill C-75’s infamous principle of restraint; ridiculously claiming that it “actually makes it harder” for criminals to receive bail.

Conservatives are focused on making life better for Canadians: working to restore safe streets by keeping dangerous offenders behind bars – where they belong. That is why we have long called for the repeal of reckless soft-on-crime legislation, and proposed solutions like our Jail Not Bail Act to protect families and homes.

Today, Conservatives introduced a motion calling on the government to adopt a “Three-Strikes-And-You’re-Out” law that would:

  • Stop criminals convicted of three serious offences from getting bail, probation, parole or house arrest and
  • Keep violent criminals in jail for at least 10 years.

Ottawa must make dangerous, repeat offenders understand that there are consequences to their actions. Innocent Canadians should not have to pay the price for a decade of catch-and-release policies, while the Liberals’ obstruction in the House of Commons, and failure to axe the laws that allow crime and chaos on our streets.

Instead of working through the summer to solve these issues, the Liberals chose to go on vacation. Conservatives call on the government not to obstruct this critical motion, and put partisanship aside to bring the real change that Canadians are demanding to make them safe again.
