Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and Official Opposition, released the following statement on the Anniversary of 9/11 and National Day of Service:

“September 11th changed the world forever. We witnessed the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 lives – including 24 Canadians – taken in a terrorist attack of unimaginable barbarity. We continue to think of the families whose lives were forever changed by this terrible tragedy.

“It is in the most terrifying moments that true heroes rise. As the world watched on in horror, we also witnessed the unwavering courage and dedication of first responders who rushed into danger to rescue civilians trapped under rubble.

“At that harrowing time, Canadians did what we do best and showed extraordinary hospitality. The people of Gander famously opened their arms and their homes to thousands of diverted passengers and crew members – offering refuge and compassion at a time when the world seemed to be falling apart.

“On the National Day of Service, we recognize the acts of bravery and selflessness that Canadians often perform away from the spotlight. This is a call to all Canadians to carry on this spirit of goodwill and turn hurt into hope.

“Canadians know that when we stand together, we can overcome any obstacle. As we remember all the lives lost on this day, may the resilience of Canadians and Americans in the aftermath remind us to always fight for freedom over fear and light over darkness.”
