With puck drop on the 2025-26 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season coming on Sept. 19, kijhl.ca is providing fans with a preview on all 21 teams. Next in the Quick Shift series are the Kamloops Storm.

The Storm finished second in the Doug Birks division with a 25-18-1-0 record and advanced to the second round of the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs. They lost in six games to the 100 Mile House Wranglers.

Second-year goalie Brenner Fyfe capped a strong rookie season by winning six playoff games and registering a 2.35 goals against average and a .939 save percentage.

“Fyfe is going to be one of the best goalies in the league,” said Storm head coach Andrew Fisher. “He is going to be difficult to score on – is a big body – 6-4, 215 pounds. We’re looking for him to continue his play from the playoffs last year.”

Returning players: F- Hayden Selin (39-15-16-31), Luca D’Amore (43-13-13-26), David Ander (42-4-15-19), Nolan McPherson (41-6-5-11), D-Wyatt Olson (24-2-12-14), Hudson Clarke (32-0-5-5), Logan Bates (9-0-2-2), G- Brenner Fyfe (30-16-12-0, 2.92 GAA, .923 SP./ KIJHL PO – .939 SP 2.35 GAA)

Acquisitions: Joshua Nuttal (signed from Oceanside Generals – VIJHL (25-7-15-1, 3.65 GAA, .920 SP), Kuy Schmirler (via trade with Revelstoke Grizzlies (78-17-22-39).

Rookies: F- Jack Day – PAC Saints U18AA – Alberta Elite Hockey League (29-14-24-38), Carter Biggs – Thompson Blazers U18AAA (30-6-10-16), D- Emery Corpe – Strathcona Warriors U18AA – AEHL (32-11-23-34), Alex Schaub – Okotoks Oilers U18AA – AEHL (38-3-3-6).

Team Outlook: General manager Matt Kolle says they’ve taken the approach of building their team up.

“We’re counting on the idea that the players we have offered spots to, and committed to, are all going to be here,” said Kolle, adding they scouted hard and spent more time with recruits.

Fisher added they placed a focus on guys who would compete. They want to build on that from last season – and take their intensity to another level.

“I think our compete level will be higher this year,” he said. “We have a lot of guys who have won championships and play the game the right way – compete every night and play a 200-foot game. I’m definitely looking forward to getting going and to really moving on what we have done in the past.”
