NEW WESTMINSTER– New Democrat MLAs Jennifer Whiteside and Raj Chouhan say people in New Westminster will benefit as local organizations receive grants to support music, theatre, and arts programs.

“Arts and culture connect us to each other and to the stories that shape our communities,” says Jennifer Whiteside, MLA for New Westminster-Coquitlam. “This funding is an investment in the people and places that make our neighbourhoods unique.”

In New Westminster, 11 organizations are receiving Community Gaming Grants, including:

·         Royal City Musical Theatre Society, $34,000

·         Massey Theatre Society, $75,700

·         New West Pride Society, $30,000

“Supporting local arts means supporting local voices,” says Raj Chouhan, MLA for Burnaby-New Westminster. “These grants help ensure that diverse stories and perspectives continue to be shared and celebrated.”

Across B.C., 771 not-for-profit organizations received more than $16.6 million to support programs, services and activities related to music, theatre and dance, as well as literary and visual arts.

Program funds are provided from general revenues via provincial commercial gambling revenue in partnership with the B.C. Lottery Corporation.
