Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Onam:

“Today, Canadians of Malayali heritage come together to celebrate Onam: a vibrant festival that honours King Mahabali, who was known for his righteousness and generosity. This special time is taken to share traditional feasts, enjoy music, dance and play games to remind us of the importance of gratitude.

“As families gather to celebrate this year’s blessings, let us honour those things that make Malayali culture so unique and strong: from the harvest festivals to traditional arts and celebrations like Pulikali.

“This is also a time to recognize the incredible contributions that Canadians of Malayali heritage make across this great country. Rooted in our shared values of faith, family and freedom, they have made a truly lasting impact in public service, business, the arts, sports and beyond.

“Through celebrations like Onam, Canada’s vibrant Malayali community not only preserves its own rich heritage, but enriches our common culture by showcasing their proud and colourful traditions.

“On behalf of all my Conservative colleagues, I want to wish everyone celebrating a joyful and prosperous Onam!

Onashamsakal!”
