Ottawa, ON –  The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on the Philippines’ National Heroes Day:

“Every story has a hero, and countries are no different. The story of every nation is filled with the heroes who have defined it. They help shape not just the course of their country’s history, but the character of its people.

“On National Heroes Day, Filipinos come together to celebrate figures from Andrés Bonifacio to Jose Rizal. These heroes are remembered for binding together their nascent country with both statecraft and prose.

“Their courage and determination continue to inspire people to this day. Canadians of Filipino descent proudly honour the values they fought to defend: that people should be free to choose their future.

“We are also reminded of the heroes that live among us today. Not just the towering figures of our times but also those who live out the timeless values of hard work, supporting their families and upholding their faith.

“From those who risk their lives to defend the freedoms of others to healthcare workers who work tirelessly to preserve the lives of others, we honour the everyday heroes who continue to strengthen our country.

“Happy National Heroes Day!”
