Canadians Have a Right to Know Our Immigration Numbers

Calgary, AB – Today, the Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Conservative Shadow Minister for Immigration, issued the following statement on the Liberal government admitting to purposefully censoring critical immigration data:

“The Liberal government just admitted that they have purposefully withheld raw immigration data from the public, and intend on replacing it with heavily edited information that will likely be packaged with Liberal spin.

“The raw data IRCC provides is relied upon by everyone from public health policy makers, to labour force analysts, to housing developers. Canadians need access to accurate and timely immigration numbers to make good decisions and meet the needs of those who call this country home. Without reliable and trustworthy data, disaster happens.

“After Conservatives raised policy concerns about Canada’s immigration system, the Minister has chosen to hide critical evidence of Liberal failures. What’s worse, she’s doing it as the government is in the middle of so-called ‘immigration levels’ consultations. How can anyone give feedback when it requires data they don’t have access to?

“Instead of censoring critical data and trying to hide the fact that the Liberals have allowed more people into the country than our housing, healthcare and job market can handle, they should be massively lowering immigration levels. More importantly, they should be honest with Canadians about where their policies are taking us.

“The Liberals need to be honest with Canadians about their immigration policy. Conservatives will continue to hold the Liberals to account so Canadians can get the answers they deserve.”
