MP Rempel Garner Releases Statement on the Liberals’ Failure to Update Immigration Numbers

August 6, 2025 at 10:14 am  Federal, Politics

Ottawa, ON – Today, the Hon. Michelle Rempel Garner, Shadow Minister for Immigration, issued the following statement on the Government of Canada’s failure to provide basic public dataset updates on immigration:

“We have learned that the Liberal government is failing to update Canadians on the results of their irresponsible, failed approach to immigration.

“Since Mark Carney took office in March, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has failed to publish any of their public datasets. This is in stark contrast to their regular release schedule.

“How many illegal border crossings have we had? How many more asylum claims have piled on to an already backlogged waitlist? How many more permits have the Liberals handed out that continue to overwhelm our housing, healthcare system and job market?

“Whatever the numbers are, Canadians have a right to know.

“Conservatives call on Mark Carney and the Liberals to be straightforward with Canadians. They must continue to update the IRCC’s public datasets, allowing people to judge for themselves how our immigration system is doing.”
