NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

New K-7 public school coming to Richmond’s city centre, says MLA Kelly Greene

RICHMOND – New Democrat MLA Kelly Greene says a newly purchased school site in Richmond’s city centre will help meet the growing demand for classroom space and ensure more students can access public education close to home.

“Richmond is growing rapidly, and this new school site is such exciting news for families in the city centre,” said Kelly Greene, MLA for Richmond-Steveston. “With plans to open in 2026, more students will soon have the opportunity to learn and grow in a school right in their own community.”

The Richmond School District (SD 38) purchased the site at 8671 Odlin Crescent, which includes an existing school building previously operated by a private school. The building will undergo necessary upgrades to prepare for the planned opening in September 2026.

The provincial government contributed $6 million towards the total $60 million cost of the site, with the Richmond School District funding the remaining amount.

This new K-7 school will support enrolment pressures in the city centre and provide additional learning spaces in one of the fastest-growing areas of Richmond
