In reaction to government’s measures to retaliate against U.S. steel, aluminum tariffs, Canada’s NDP leader Don Davies issued the following statement:

“It’s about time the Liberals recognized the urgency of the situation facing steel and aluminum workers. When an issue matters to them, Liberals don’t hesitate to act—but in this case, they’re taking one small step after another, which won’t make a meaningful difference and will ultimately cost many workers their jobs.

The NDP is calling for an immediate emergency plan that includes: stronger Buy Canadian policies, tougher trade enforcement, robust anti-dumping measures, comprehensive Employment Insurance reform, and the introduction of a wage subsidy program to support impacted workers.”
