Civil society groups demand withdrawal of government’s border bill – June 18, 2025

A coalition of civil society organizations call for the withdrawal of Bill C-2, the government’s Strong Borders Act, over concerns about human and migrant rights.

Speaking with reporters in Ottawa are Gauri Sreenivasan (co-executive director of the Canadian Council for Refugees), Tim McSorley (national coordinator for the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group), Debbie Owusu-Akyeeah (co-director of policy and advocacy at Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights), and Karen Cocq (spokesperson for the Migrant Rights Network).
