MPs comment on trade negotiations With the U.S., steel and aluminum tariffs – June 11, 2025

MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as they convene for the daily question period in the House of Commons. Interim NDP Leader Don Davies, NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice, Liberal MP Karina Gould and Bloc Québécois MP Xavier Barsalou-Duval comment on reports that Canada and the United States are negotiating and making progress towards a possible new trade deal.

Bloc Québécois MPs Mario Simard and Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay discuss the federal response to increased U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum following a meeting with Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne. They are joined by Michel Lavoie and Martin Garneau, representatives from the Quebec aluminum industry.

Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner responds to questions on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s calls for significant limits to be placed on Canada’s population growth.

NDP MP Leah Gazan speaks about the state of her party following results of the last federal election. She also comments on Bill C-5, the government’s new legislation on bolstering trade between the provinces and territories and moving forward with major infrastructure projects of “national interest.”
