Canada can devote 5% of its GDP to defence spending says retired General

NATO is now calling for its partners to devote 5% of their GDP to defence spending, as announced by the organization’s Secretary General Mark Rutte on Thursday. Canada was already hesitant to hit the previous 2% target: what about now? Retired General Rick Hillier, Canada’s Chief of Defence Staff from 2005 to 2008, tells CPAC’s Michael Serapio that Canada can do so, and that “we might just think about the cost of not hitting that goal that is even higher.” Watch his interview.
