On the first day of the 45th Parliament, Liberal MP Francis Scarpaleggia is elected as the new Speaker of the House of Commons.

Prime Minister Mark Carney makes congratulatory remarks, along with opposition leaders Andrew Scheer (Conservative), Yves-François Blanchet (Bloc Québécois), Don Davies (NDP), and Elizabeth May (Green Party).
