“Economic development is key to embracing all the potential that our region has to offer,” said Dana Lajeunesse, MLA for Juan de Fuca-Malahat. “I’m pleased to see this funding going to support exciting work in our communities to diversify and develop our economy and I will continue my work to support efforts to bring more good paying jobs closer to home.”

The following projects in Port Renfrew and Malahat regions are receiving funding:

  • Malahat Nation – $99,523 for phase 2 of an economic capacity development project

  • Pacheedaht First Nation – $331,000 for a master plan for the Pacheedaht beach lands

  • Worklink Employment Society – Port Renfrew – $99,455.26 for Port Renfrew economic development, tourism, and community partnerships

More than 130 projects across B.C. are receiving a total of $43 million in funding this year from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP). Projects are being led by local governments, First Nations, and not-for-profit organizations, and will create an estimated 1,200 jobs across the province.
