NDP MLA Melanie Mark says new infrastructure funding a boost for community services

NDP MLA Davidson says projects on the North Coast will help diversify economy, promote sustainability

KLEMTU- BC NDP MLA Tamara Davidson says that people will benefit from funding to promote economic diversification and sustainability in rural communities.

“People living in rural places deserve to have good jobs and vibrant communities ” said Tamara Davidson, MLA for North Coast-Haida Gwaii. “This funding will help with innovative projects that highlight our beautiful area while identifying needs to support economic growth and the people living here.”

Approved projects in the region include:

  • $100,000 for Wuikinuxv Nation Economic Development Plan
  • $100,000 for Heiltsuk Q̓átuw̓alas Visitor/Cultural Center Design and Waterfront Business Plan
  • $100,000 for Director of Economic Advancement Initiative at Kitasoo Xai’zais Nation

More than 130 projects across B.C. are receiving a total of $43 million in funding this year from the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP). Projects are being led by local governments, First Nations, and not-for-profit organizations, and will create an estimated 1,200 jobs across the province.
