Accessibility and inclusion for students with invisible disabilities – event
TRU’s Accessibility Committee is hosting an event for National AccessAbility Week and Red Shirt Day on Wednesday, May 28 from 1 – 3:30 p.m.
Red Shirt Day celebrates accessibility and inclusion for individuals and families living with disabilities.
Learn about TRU’s accessibility plan and hear from current TRU student Samantha Jo Haire, who will share her experience as a student with an invisible disability.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Nan Stevens, will facilitate ‘Accessibility and Inclusion for Students with Invisible Disabilities: What is Neurodiversity?’
Stevens is the mother of a neurodivergent young man, a disabilities scholar, a consultant, a workshop facilitator and an author.
She will unpack the phenomenon of invisible disabilities, including the Neurodiversity Movement, its origins and history, theory and best practices.
TRU instructors, staff, students and the community will gain knowledge, understanding and practical tools to better support neurodivergent students.
Wear red and join us for an afternoon of learning and engagement.
