For Logan Edmonstone, this season was all about seizing the moment. The 17-year-old goaltender stepped into his rookie year with the Kamloops Blazers, already getting a small taste of WHL action during the 2023-24 campaign, appearing in five games.

Edmonstone was selected by the Blazers in the eighth round of the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

“This year was a lot of fun,” Edmonstone said. “I had a great example in Dylan [Ernst]. He was awesome to me, made it comfortable and easy to play. When he got hurt, it obviously sucked for him, but it gave me a chance to get into a rhythm, and I started playing really well.”

The Saskatoon native put together a 7-17-3 record in 30 appearances during the 2024-25 season. With Ernst sidelined for a stretch, Edmonstone started upwards to 15 straight games and found his groove, growing more confident with each appearance between the pipes. During that stretch, Edmonstone held together a .913 save percentage and was among the top goaltenders in the B.C. Division.

“Dylan’s someone I really look up to. He’s a great guy, a great leader, and a great goalie,” he added.

The goalie position runs in the family for Edmonstone. His dad and grandfather both strapped on the pads in their day, and Logan’s first taste came on an outdoor rink in his backyard. From there, it clicked. His idol is none other than future Hall of Famer, “Marc-André Fleury,” he said with a smile.

Throughout the season, Edmonstone saw growth in multiple areas of his game, but if he had to pick one, he pointed to his ability to battle through traffic.

“Just finding pucks through bodies and staying sharp in those moments—that’s something I really improved on,” he said. “Overall speed, too.”

He also models aspects of his style after Nashville Predators goalie Juuse Saros, another smaller goaltender who thrives with quickness and positioning.
Edmonstone is a prospect for the 2026 NHL Draft and has been gaining scouts’ attention.

This past season, Edmonstone was recognized off the ice as a finalist for the 2024-25 Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy, presented annually to the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year. Edmonstone maintained a 95% average, including a 98% grade in Math Pre-Calculus 30 and a 98% in Chemistry 30. The last Blazer to win the trophy was Connor Levis during the 2021-22 campaign.

Away from the rink, Edmonstone loves to go fishing and hit the links for some golf.

“I went fly fishing in the fall—can’t remember the name of the lake, but I caught some trout,” he said when asked about fishing around Kamloops. “It was great.”

While he doesn’t consider himself overly superstitious, as other goalies and hockey players can be, Edmonstone does stick to a routine. Still, he’s not the type to unravel if things don’t go exactly to plan.

“If something doesn’t happen the exact way, I’m not rattled,” he said. “I just focus on playing.”

When asked if he’s ever dreamed of scoring a goal as a netminder, he didn’t hesitate.

“Yeah, I have. Me and my goalie coach were working on it not too long ago,” he laughed. “Just sailing pucks down the ice.” The last WHL goaltender to score a goal was Spokane Chiefs netminder Dawson Cowan during the 2023-24 season; no Blazers goaltender has ever scored a goal.

What about a goalie fight? Well, “There’s a time and place,” Edmonstone said with a smirk. “You see guys like Jordan Binnington out there stirring it up… but yeah, time and place.”

With the season wrapped up, Edmonstone will look to man the crease as the Blazers’ starter for the 2025-26 season.
