Mark Carney’s Liberals will protect B.C. workers and build Canada Strong

Port Moody, B.C. – This election comes at a time of crisis. President Trump is disrupting global markets and fundamentally reshaping the international trading system. With Canada, he has been even more direct and aggressive: he wants to break us so America can own us. Misguided American policies are not only threatening our economy and jobs. They are also threatening the safety of our communities.

“In a crisis, a plan beats no plan. Throughout this campaign, Pierre Poilievre proved that he has no plan to meet this consequential moment, stand up to President Trump, or build Canada’s economy,” said Mark Carney, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada. “My new government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create higher-paying jobs and lifelong careers, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Together, we will protect British Columbia – together, we will build Canada strong.”

To stand up for British Columbians from President Trump and build Canada strong, a Mark Carney-led Liberal government will:

  • Protect our workers by using every dollar from Canada’s retaliatory tariffs to invest in our workers and help industries affected by tariffs;
  • Build more homes British Columbians can afford by getting the federal government back into the business of building homes, and doubling the pace of construction over the next decade to almost 500,000 new homes a year across Canada. And we will be eliminating the GST on homes under $1 million and reducing the GST on homes between $1 million – $1.5 million, while providing disaster mitigation and recovery funding to help communities get back on their feet after natural disasters that are increasing with climate change;
  • Build smarter by providing over $25 billion in financing to innovative prefabricated home builders, including those using B.C. and Canadian technologies and resources such as mass timber and softwood lumber;
  • Secure communities from American-style gun policies by automatically revoking gun licenses for individuals convicted of violent offences, including intimate partner violence, and investing in our front-line workers by training new CBSA officers;
  • Kickstart the clean energy supply chain by investing in critical minerals, notably present in British Columbia — and connect critical mineral projects to the broader supply chain through a new First and Last Mile Fund. This will make more projects viable, create a more integrated and accessible Canadian economy, attract investment, and support thousands of jobs in British Columbia and across Canada.

A Mark Carney-led government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create new jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Liberals will build Canada strong.
