Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Yom HaShoah

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, released the following statement on Yom HaShoah:

“On Yom HaShoah we remember the 6 million Jews murdered by the Nazi regime during the Holocaust.

“The staggering death toll only begins to describe the horrors of the Shoah. Men, women and children were systematically persecuted and sorted into death camps. Entire families were wiped out. Those who survived were left with painful memories of brutal atrocities.

“As we join the Jewish community here in Canada and in Israel to commemorate the victims, we do so against a resurgence of antisemitism across the country in the aftermath of the attacks of October 7th, the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

“Today, it is more important than ever to remember that antisemitism remains a living threat to Jews worldwide, including in our streets here at home, where Canadian Jews are the targets of harassment, vandalism and violence.

“On this solemn day of remembrance, Canada’s Conservatives pledge to remember the stories of the Shoah, to defend the Jewish community against the evil of antisemitism, and to ensure that it is Never Again allowed to rear its ugly head.”
