Mark Carney’s Liberals Stand Up to President Trump for Québec Identity and Economy

Trois-Rivières, Québec – This election comes at a time of crisis. President Trump is disrupting global markets and fundamentally reshaping the international trading system. With Canada, he has been even more direct and aggressive: he wants to break us so America can own us. Mark Carney won’t let that happen. He has a plan that will fight, protect, and build in the face of these threats to our way of life, our economy and sovereignty – in Québec and across Canada.

“A new Liberal government will never cower to President Trump’s attacks on Canada. In this time of crisis, protecting Québec and Canada’s identity, including the protection of the French language, is an essential part of securing Canada, and this will never be on the negotiating table,” said Mark Carney, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.“ We can give ourselves more than he can ever take away. My new government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create higher-paying jobs and lifelong careers, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Together, we will build Canada strong.”

To protect Quebecers from President Trump, a Mark Carney-led Liberal government will:

  • Protect supply management to defend Canadian jobs and farmers, by ensuring it is never on the table during trade negotiations;
  • Reinforce CBC/Radio-Canada to protect Québec voices and voices across Canada by introducing legislation for permanent, statutory financial support – with an initial $150 millions boost in annual funding, equipping the broadcaster to promote Québec and Canada’s culture, and strengthening the local news that so many Quebecers rely on;
  • Support Québec artists and artists and creators across Canada by increasing funding to the Canada Council for the Arts, Telefilm, the Canada Media Fund, and the National Film Board — because the more of our perspectives we bring to life, the better we appreciate our culture, the stronger we are as a nation;
  • Establish Canadian-made standards for federal infrastructure funding, including requirements to maximize the use of Canadian and Québec steel, aluminium, and forestry products;
  • Buy Canadian-made airborne early warning and control aircraft to support our domestic aerospace industry and speed up procurement;
  • Kickstart the clean energy supply chain by investing in critical minerals — notably present in Québec — and connect critical mineral projects to the broader supply chain through a new First and Last Mile Fund. This will make more projects viable, create a more integrated and accessible Canadian economy, attract investment, and support thousands of jobs in Québec and across Canada;
  • Move forward with One Project, One Review to reinforce the rigour of Canada’s system that protects the environment, guarantees Indigenous consultation and involvement, and builds community buy-in, while also proceeding with Canada’s six major investment tax credits that support clean energy and technology – including in Québec, a national leader in clean innovation;
  • Build smarter, sustainable, more affordable homes faster by providing over $25 billion in financing to innovative prefabricated home builders, including those using Québec and Canadian technologies and resources like mass timber and softwood lumber – with Québec being a world leader in mass timber; and,
  • Build major nation-building projects to connect Canada and grow the economy — starting with high-speed rail from Windsor to Québec City, including a stop in Trois-Rivières.

A Mark Carney-led government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create new jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Liberals will build Canada strong.
