A Mark Carney government will reduce tolls for the Confederation Bridge and make Atlantic transportation more affordable

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island — This election comes at a time of crisis, as President Trump threatens Canadian jobs, businesses, and our way of life. In the face of these threats, Mark Carney has a plan to build a stronger economy and a Canada you can afford.

In Atlantic Canada, the Confederation Bridge and ferries are critical to connecting residents and businesses. To make these options more affordable, we’ll reduce tolls and other costs.

“As President Trump threatens our economy, my government will lower tolls and ferry costs to help more Canadians weather this storm,” said Liberal Leader Mark Carney. “The Confederation Bridge is a nation-building structure that brings workers, families, and businesses together. We will reduce tolls by more than half, so Islanders and all Canadians can get from place to place and keep more money in their pocket.”

A Mark Carney-led government will lower the Confederation Bridge tolls by more than half — from $50 to $20. We will also lower costs by at least half for passengers on the following routes:

  • The Northumberland Ferries, while commiting to the long-term viability of the two-ferry service;
  • The Marine Atlantic ferry routes between Port aux Basques, Newfoundland and Labrador, North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and between Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador and North Sydney, Nova Scotia; and,
  • The Coopérative de Transport Maritime et Aérien ferry in cooperation with the Government of Quebec.

We will also reduce fares for those using these routes to transport goods. Significantly reducing the costs associated with the Confederation Bridge and these ferry services will make it easier to trade between provinces, unite Canada, and build one Canadian economy.

A Mark Carney-led government will stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create new jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7. Liberals will build Canada strong.
