Conservatives Will Provide Seized Russian Assets To Ukraine

Ottawa, ON – Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre pledged that his new Conservative Government will provide $22 billion worth of frozen Russian assets to Ukraine for their heroic defence of their country against Putin’s vicious and illegal invasion.

The Conservative Party of Canada has always stood with our Ukrainian allies. Moscow’s war against Ukraine did not start in 2022, but nearly eight years prior. After this, the Conservative government of Prime Minister Stephen Harper sent troops to Ukraine under Operation UNIFIER and played a leading role in removing the Russian Federation from the G8.

Liberals have had years to get these funds to Ukraine, but have failed. Conservatives will get these funds to Ukraine quickly to help Ukraine in their defence.

“Conservatives have always been proud to support our Ukrainian allies,” said Poilievre. “It was Conservatives that first introduced the Sergei Magnitsky Law, enabling the sanctioning of Russian oligarchs after Putin’s illegal and unprovoked invasion of Crimea.”

As Prime Minister, Pierre Poilievre will send these frozen funds to the Ukrainians, so they can continue to resist Putin’s war machine, and so they have funds to rebuild their country and repair the damage Putin has done.

“Three hours after the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began, I told a rally of Ottawa’s Ukrainian community that ‘Canadians stand in total solidarity with you, and we will be by your side throughout,’” said Poilievre. “Three years later, our dedication has not wavered. Slava Ukraini.”
