Campaign Politics | Vote 2025 – Eglinton—Lawrence/Toronto—St. Paul’s
CPAC’s Julie Van Dusen visits two ridings in Toronto, Eglinton–Lawrence and Toronto–St. Paul’s, where voters are becoming more engaged as the campaign reaches its halfway mark.
In Eglinton–Lawrence, the previous Liberal MP Marco Mendicino resigned shortly before the election call to become Mark Carney’s chief of staff and was replaced by Vince Gasparro, who ran provincially in the same riding but was defeated in February. Gasparro’s main rival is the Conservative Karen Stintz, a former city councillor and Toronto Transit Commission chair.
Toronto–St.Paul’s was the site of the Liberals’ byelection defeat in June of 2024 that precipitated the resignation of Justin Trudeau as prime minister. The winner of that byelection was the Conservative Don Stewart who is facing Leslie Church, the same opponent he had back in June. The New Democrat is Bruce Levy and Shane Philips is the Green Party candidate.
