Food Prices Skyrocketing as the Liberals Talk About Anything Else

Ottawa, ON – This morning’s new CPI data showed what Conservatives and anyone else knocking on doors this campaign already knew: Food prices are still rocketing upwards, surging by 3.2% over the last year. In the last month alone, food inflation increased by 1.9 percentage points in the largest monthly jump in decades

Fresh or frozen meat (excluding poultry) has increased in cost by nearly 10% in the last year, with beef specifically being up almost 13%. Eggs are up 5.2%, and fresh fruit by 5.6%.

These aren’t luxury goods. These are staples, and when the price of these items goes up, life becomes less affordable for Canadian families.

Of course, the Liberals don’t want to talk about this. They are desperate to keep the conversation off of Canadians’ household finances, where they would have to reckon with their disastrous record of making Canadians poorer and food more expensive for ten years.

It is time for a change.

The question for Canadian voters is this: After the Lost Liberal Decade—with costs up and crime up, our economy down and under America’s thumb—do Liberals deserve a fourth term or is it time to put Canada First for a change with a new Conservative government that will axe taxes, build homes, stop crime, unleash resources and bring home jobs with powerful paycheques so that we can stand up to Trump from a position of strength?
