Mark Carney Must Answer for Genocide Comments

Ottawa, ON – Today, Melissa Lantsman, Conservative Party Candidate for Thornhill, issued the following statement:

“Mark Carney needs to answer if he believes that Israel has a right to defend itself from the sadistic death cult Hamas.

Here are the facts:

  • On April 8, Carney responded to a heckler who shouted “Mr. Carney, there’s a genocide in Palestine!” He responded, “I’m aware. That’s why we have an arms embargo.”
  • On April 12, a video came to light of Liberal Candidate for Burlington North—Milton West Adam van Koeverden stating, “your voices, will be strong in Ottawa, strong to condemn the genocide and end the genocide in Gaza.”
  • According to media reports, Carney has refused to answer for his candidate’s accusations: “Repeated requests to Carney’s campaign to clarify his comments and explain his position on Israel went unreturned.” 

“Mark Carney is now on his third day of not taking media questions. With hate marches again witnessed in Canadian streets yesterday – during Passover no less – Mark Carney cannot leave these accusations from his candidate unaddressed.

“Mark Carney should tell Canadians where he and his party stand. Does Mark Carney believe that Israel is committing genocide, as declared by his own candidate? Or does he believe that they have the right to defend themselves?”
