« La Chine est devenue un partenaire plus fiable que les É.-U. » : ex-ambassadeur – 9 avril 2025

Le président américain Donald Trump a annoncé ce mercredi mettre sur pause l’imposition des droits de douane infligé une semaine plus tôt à plus de 75 pays. La Chine a cependant obtenu le traitement contraire, en voyant la taxe existante doubler sur ses importations. Le Canada n’a pas bénéficié de sursis sur ses droits de douane en vigueur.

L’escalade commerciale entre les États-Unis et la Chine pourrait-elle entraîner des répercussions sur le Canada? L’ancien représentant d’Ottawa à Pékin, Guy Saint-Jacques, croit que, malgré les différends entre les deux pays, l’élection d’un nouveau gouvernement offre à Ottawa une possibilité de revoir ses engagements avec la Chine, car l’État chinois serait « devenu un partenaire plus fiable que les États-Unis. »
