Conservatives Will End Carney’s Crime Wave

Ottawa, ON — Under the Lost Liberal Decade, violent crime is up 50%, car theft surged 46%, human trafficking spiked 83% and extortion skyrocketed by 357%. Yet while Canadians face this Liberal crime wave, Carney appointed the Minister responsible as his senior advisor while hand-picking a candidate who wants to defund and disarm our police.

Conservatives will end the madness unleashed by Liberal soft-on-crime laws. We will repeal Bill C-75, the Liberals’ catch-and-release law, to restore jail, not bail for repeat, violent offenders.

We will create a new offence for “assault of an intimate partner,” impose the strictest bail conditions for those accused of intimate partner violence and ensure that murder of an intimate partner, one’s own child or a partner’s child is treated as first-degree murder.

We will also repeal Liberal Bill C-5 that ended mandatory jail time for serious gun and drug crimes and implement new mandatory minimums of:

  • Life for five or more counts of human trafficking, importing or exporting ten or more illegal firearms, or trafficking, producing or exporting over 40mg of fentanyl.
  • 15 years for traffickers caught with between 20mg to 40mg.
  • Five years for gang-affiliated extortion, four years for extortion with a firearm, and three years for all other extortion convictions.
  • Six months to three years for a third offence of motor vehicle theft.

Conservatives will also create new aggravating factors for auto theft committed for organized crime and arson tied to extortion, and eliminate house arrest for indictable motor vehicle theft convictions.

Canadians can’t afford a 4th Liberal term of rising cost and crime. We need a new Conservative government to bring down costs & crime & put Canada First—for a change.
