Poilievre copies Singh’s GST promise but fails to commit to EI changes to protect workers « Canada’s NDP

Earlier today Pierre Poilievre announced something Jagmeet Singh did a week ago – removing GST from Canadian-made cars. Video of Singh’s commitment is available at 7:50 here.

But Poilievre and Mark Carney have both refused to improve Employment Insurance to help workers at risk of being laid off as a result of Trump’s tariffs. Singh has committed to fight to increase the benefit rate, eliminate the one week waiting period, and extend the coverage duration.

Jagmeet Singh:

“As Donald Trump threatens our sovereignty and targets Canadian workers with unjustified tariffs, we’ll fight to remove the GST from Canadian-made cars and trucks and make urgent changes to EI so no one is left behind. This election is about who stands with you when the pressure’s on—and we’ll always put working and middle-class Canadians ahead of billionaires and corporate lobbyists.”
