Lower Taxes, Secure Retirement for Our Seniors

Poilievre’s plan allows seniors to earn up to $34,000 tax free (a boost of $10,000 more than at present), allow seniors to keep RRSPs growing for an extra two years, while keeping the age of retirement at 65 for GIS, OAS and CPP.

Montmagny, QC – Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced his plan today to put seniors back in control of their retirements, lowering their taxes and keep more of their earnings. Poilievre’s common sense plan will:

  1. Allow working seniors to earn up to $34,000 tax free—$10k more than now.
  2. Allow seniors the option of keeping savings growing in RRSPs until age 73, up from 71.
  3. Protect OAS, GIS & CPP by keeping the retirement age at 65.

“Our seniors should not have to work. But they should not be punished when they choose to,” Poilievre said. “We should reward rather than punish work. Those that choose to grow their savings for longer should have the chance. And we will not raise the retirement age. Seniors will keep getting their OAS, GIS and CPP at age 65.”

Many seniors want to continue to work in their retirement. Some like the extra money. Others enjoy the activity. Either way, it should not be punished with clawbacks and taxes. Earnings should go into the pockets of our wonderful seniors.

“After a Lost Liberal Decade, Canadian seniors can’t afford a fourth Liberal term making Canadians poorer and Canada weaker. They need a new Conservative government that will lower taxes and put Canada First – for a change,” said Poilievre.

Common Sense Conservatives will axe taxes, stop crime, unleash the economy, and stand up to Trump from a position of strength. They will restore the Canadian promise, protect seniors’ savings and build a Canada where a lifetime of hard work means a secure retirement, in a safe and affordable home, under a proud flag.
