Unions Back Poilievre’s ‘Boots Not Suits’ Plan

Ottawa, ON – Yesterday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced his plan to boost training for the next generation of workers. This policy, named ‘More Boots, Less Suits,’ will bring home more training halls, direct grants and faster EI to apprentices in the licensed trades. This will deliver powerful paycheques for our people while making us less dependent on the Americans.

Since then, unions representing tens of thousands of workers from across Canada have endorsed Poilievre’s plan:

Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU)

“We’d like to thank Pierre Poilievre for listening to the concerns of Canada’s Building Trades Unions and addressing long-standing policy asks … we are grateful for Pierre Poilievre’s commitment to improving the lives of workers”

The Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA)

“This is the way to get Canada’s important energy and infrastructure projects built. Our members and their workers stand ready to build the projects that define our country and strengthen our economy. Let’s Get Building!”

Victoria Mancinelli, Director of Public Relations, Communications, Marketing and Strategic Partnerships, LiUNA C&E Canada

“Today’s plan outlined by Pierre Poilievre will help train more than 350,000 workers that will continue to build, connect and power Canada forward while working with labour unions to build rewarding career paths and strengthen our economy.”

LiUNA Canada:

“Today LiUNA welcomed Pierre Poilievre to our Ottawa TC for an important announcement centred on a comprehensive skilled trades strategy to boost opportunity and support the Men and Women who build Canada.”

James Barry, COO of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers:

“Very pleased to see Poilievre’s pro-union commitments to strengthening the apprenticeship system for IBEW and other unionized workers. It’s clear he has been listening to our concerns, which we have continued to voice since our constructive dialogue began.”

Only Conservatives will restore Canada’s promise: Where hard work gets you a great life, in a beautiful home, on a safe street, protected by solid borders and brave troops under a proud flag. That’s what it means to put Canada First.
