NDP enters campaign with record-breaking momentum, strong slate « Canada’s NDP
OTTAWA – Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and NDP candidates across the country will spend this election talking to Canadians about which party they can trust to protect and fight for everyday people at the negotiating table with Donald Trump – and this time around, they’ve got more money, they’re better prepared and they’ve got strong candidates.
“We are ready for this election,” said NDP Campaign Director Jennifer Howard. “We’ve got more candidates nominated than the Liberals do and more than we had when the writ dropped in 2021. We’ve had an incredible few months of fundraising and our candidates are stellar – we’ve got a slate of incumbents and experienced leaders who will fight for working and middle-class Canadians, not the ultrarich and powerful.”
NDP fundraising numbers were up 70 per cent in January and 131 per cent in February compared to the same time last year. Just this week, the party saw its highest single day fundraising total since Q4. Local candidates are also smashing expectations – NDP candidate for Taiaiako’n—Parkdale—High Park Bhutila Karpoche raised $80,000 in just one night.
This is the first time in a decade the NDP will spend the maximum allowed under Elections Canada’s limits.
“This election, we will be on an even playing field with the Liberals and Conservatives—and Canadians will hear what Jagmeet Singh and the NDP are fighting for,” said Howard.
The party also boasts an impressive list of candidates. In addition to their incumbents, they’ve attracted sitting city councillors, former elected officials from all levels of government, teachers, nurses, farmers, factory workers and academic and business leaders.
“We’re thrilled that so many people who have spent their careers fighting for working and middle-class folks in their communities now want to bring that fight to Ottawa with Jagmeet and the NDP,” said Howard.
