NDP react to Carney scrapping the capital gains tax « Canada’s NDP

Canada’s NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh issued the following statement:

“It’s Canada’s everyday people, families and workers that need relief and lower costs — not billionaires, not big corporations.

Mark Carney is choosing to open another lucrative tax loophole for those at the very top. The capital gains inclusion rate changes benefit those who earn $1.4 million every year. And it will cost families a whopping $19 billion.

When times are tough and when Donald Trump comes for Canada, Mark Carney will protect the money of billionaires as he always has, and he’ll make everyday families pay for it. He proved at Brookfield he’ll hike prices, raise rents, evict tenants and fire workers to keep profits rolling in. It’s wrong, and I won’t support it. Now more than ever in my lifetime, it’s time to fight for workers and everyday families.”
