
Ministers speak with reporters as new cabinet meets – March 14, 2025
Ministers from newly sworn-in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet speak to reporters as the first meeting of the new federal cabinet takes place on Parliament Hill. Carney and his new cabinet of 23 ministers were sworn in earlier in the day at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
Speaking briefly are ministers François-Philippe Champagne (finance), Mélanie Joly (foreign affairs, international development), Steven Guilbeault (Canadian culture and identity, Parks Canada and Quebec lieutenant), Ginette Petitpas Taylor (Treasury Board president), Chrystia Freeland (transport, internal trade), Anita Anand (innovation), Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (housing), David McGuinty (public safety), Rachel Bendayan (immigration), Élisabeth Brière (veterans affairs, minister response for Canada Revenue Agency), Arielle Kayabaga (government House leader, democratic institutions), Patty Hajdu (Indigenous services), Kody Blois (agriculture and agri-food, rural economic development), Kamal Khera (health), and Ali Ehsassi (government transformation, public services and procurement). Canadian ambassador to the United States Kirsten Hillman also takes questions from reporters.
