NDP Statement on the occasion of Purim 2025 « Canada’s NDP

Canada’s NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made the following statement:

“Tonight, at sunset, Jewish families across the world will celebrate the start of Purim.

Purim celebrates the Jewish people’s perseverance in the face of adversity. Over two thousand years ago, Queen Esther and Mordechai helped Jewish people escape from death at the hands of Haman.

Across the country, the Jewish community will exchange gifts, give to those in need, read the Megillah and eat Hamantashen.

To celebrate Esther’s courage and the bravery of the Jewish people, let’s commit to working together to build a stronger, even more inclusive Canada.

Jewish Canadians have seen a rise in antisemitism across the country, and now more than ever, the Jewish community needs our solidarity and to stand up to hatred wherever it occurs.

On behalf of all New Democrats, I wish everyone a fun, meaningful and festive celebration!

Happy Purim!

Chag Purim Sameach!”
