Doug Ford’s strategy with the U.S. “is working”: Stephen McNeil – March 11, 2025
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Tuesday afternoon that he suspended his 25% electricity surcharge on exports to American markets after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to double his upcoming 25% tariff on Canadian exports steel and aluminum. Ford lifted his threat after being invited by United States Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick to discuss “a renewed USMCA ahead of the April 2 reciprocal tariff deadline.”
The former Nova Scotia premier and member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Canada-U.S. Relations Stephen McNeil tells CPAC’s Michael Serapio that this invitation shows that Ford’s strategy “is working,” because “that’s going to put pressure on the White House to talk to them about the lunacy of this policy.” Watch our interview here.
