Ottawa, ON—The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on International Women’s Day:

“Today is a special day for Canadians, and for people all across the globe. Every year, International Women’s Day gives us a chance to celebrate the extraordinary women and girls in our lives, and to recognize the countless contributions they have made to every aspect of our society.

“It was women who shaped Canada into the country that we know and love. From pioneers like Marguerite Bourgeoys to early heroes like Laura Secord. From iconic artists like Emily Carr to trailblazers like Ellen Fairclough, Canadian women have always been the backbone of our nation.

“Women have taken part in all of Canada’s wars, and many today stand on guard in the ranks of our Canadian Armed Forces. Others serve in emergency services from coast to coast to coast, working tirelessly for the good of their communities.

“Together, we will build a brighter, safer and more prosperous future for Canadian women and girls. On behalf of Canada’s Common Sense Conservatives, I want to wish everyone a very happy International Women’s Day!”
