IBEW Local 993 Commits to Supporting Canadian Businesses with “Buy Canadian” Initiative

Kamloops, March 4, 2025 – The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 993 is proud to announce a new commitment to prioritizing Canadian-made products for all office purchases moving forward. This initiative reflects the union’s dedication to strengthening the local and national economy while upholding the values of sustainability, quality, and community investment.

As a strong advocate for workers’ rights and economic growth, IBEW 993 recognizes the importance of reinvesting in Canadian industries. Under this initiative, the union will source office supplies, furniture, technology, and other necessary items from local retailers and Canadian manufacturers whenever possible. If a local option is unavailable, IBEW 993 will prioritize purchases from a provincial source, and if no provincial option exists, the union will ensure the product is sourced from a Canadian supplier.

“Our members work hard to build and maintain the infrastructure that powers our country. It’s only right that we do our part to make sure our spending supports Canadian businesses, workers, and families,” said Jim Bicknell, Business Manager of IBEW 993. “This decision reflects our values and will help build a stronger, more resilient economy.”

By keeping more money within Canada, this initiative is expected to have a significant positive impact—helping small and medium-sized businesses thrive, creating local jobs, and reducing the environmental impact of international shipping. IBEW 993 encourages other unions, businesses, and individuals to adopt similar commitments to buying Canadian-made products.

“I challenge all IBEW locals, unions, and businesses across Canada to join us in strengthening our economy by committing to buying Canadian,” added Bicknell.
