L’Essentiel: Effort canadien de dernière minute pour contrer les tarifs – 27 février 2025

Le président américain Donald Trump a annoncé ce jeudi que des tarifs douaniers s’appliqueront sur des produits canadiens dès la semaine prochaine. Pendant ce temps, une délégation canadienne était à Washington au même moment pour tenter un effort de la dernière chance lors d’une rencontre avec le responsable américain de la frontière, Tom Homan. Le ministre de la Sécurité publique, David McGuinty, et le responsable de la lutte contre le fentanyl, Kevin Brosseau, étaient sur place. Mais est-ce que le sort en est jeté? Notre animatrice Catherine Lafrance en discute avec Frédéric Mérand, directeur du département de Science politique de l’Université de Montréal.

Le président ukrainien Volodymyr Zelensky est en route pour Washington D.C. pour signer avec le président américain Donald Trump un accord portant sur l’exploitation de minerais. Cette entente n’inclurait cependant pas les garanties de sécurité auxquelles Kyiv tenait tant. Nous prenons le pouls de l’opinion ukrainienne avec Tetyana Ogarkova, journaliste et responsable du département international à Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Nous nous penchons également sur les pressions de l’administration Trump pour abandonner l’inculpation du maire de New York, Eric Adams, avec un avocat et ancien procureur américain, Eric Lisann.
