Trump’s threats: Canada needs to learn from Ukraine, says Lloyd Axworthy – February 21, 2025

Former Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy co-wrote recently an op-ed in Policy Magazine with former Justice Minister Allan Rock and Carleton University Professor Michael Manulak, where he states that U.S. President Donald Trump’s “demeaning treatment of Canada and its Prime Minister — from his coercive threat of 25% tariffs to his mendacity and inconsistency in justifying those tariffs, to his repeatedly stated annexation fantasies — cannot be regarded as anything other than a hostile act.” He then says that Ukraine’s experience must be a cautionary tale for Canada.
