Munro, Filippone & Krakora selected as KIJHL 3 Stars

Liam Munro (Creston Valley Thunder Cats), Ben Filippone (Kamloops Storm) and Andrew Krakora (Merritt Centennials) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Feb.16/25.

Munro – Top Forward – The Calgary native scored five goals and added two assists in three games for the Thunder Cats, while being a plus six and playing an average of 28:05 a game. In their 5-3 loss to the Kimberley Dynamiters on Feb.11, Munro scored once. In their 6-3 win over the Spokane Braves on Feb.14, Munro netted a hat-trick, including the winning goal, and added an assist. Then in their 3-1 win over the Nelson Leafs on Feb. 15, Munro assisted on the 1-1 goal then secured the win with an empty net tally.

Filippone – Top Defenceman – The Kamloops native had a goal and four assists in two games for the Storm, while being plus three and playing an average of 21:19 a game. Filippone had a two-assist performance against his former team, the Castlegar Rebels on Feb. 15 in a 5-2 win. Filippone assisted on the winning goal. It was his first point since joining the Storm. Filippone then had a goal and three points on Feb.16 in a 4-2 win over the Chase Heat. The 6-2, 200-pound defenceman collected another game-winning assist. Filippone, 18, has four goals and 18 points in 27 games, split between the Rebels (13 points in 15 games) and Storm.

Krakora – Top Goalie – The Pittsburgh native had an excellent performance for the Centennials against the Princeton Posse, stopping 46 of 47 shots in a 2-1 win on Feb.11. Krakora saved all 30 shots he faced in the second and third period combined, then lost his shutout bid with 43 seconds left in the game. It’s the second Top Goalie selection of the season for Krakora, who is 11-8-0 on the season with a 2.49 goals against average and a .928 save percentage.
